Broadside Investigative Group LLC was founded in 2011 by Todd Troutner, a former detective with a large northern Virginia police department. During his law enforcement career, which he is very proud of, Todd worked as a detective in both the Violent Crimes and Major Crimes Units. He was the primary/lead detective for a variety of cases, including:
- Murders/Homicides (including death penalty eligible cases)
- Death Investigations
- Robberies
- Rapes/Sexual Assaults/Abductions
- Malicious Woundings (shootings/stabbings/beatings)
- Larcenies (frauds/embezzlements/thefts)
- Home Invasions/Burglaries
- Missing Persons

Todd has received and been nominated for investigative awards from civic, professional, and governmental organizations, including the Hillary Robinette Award given by the Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce for Excellence and Integrity in Investigative Work, and a U.S. Attorney Law Enforcement Public Service Award. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from George Mason University, a B.A. from Grinnell College and attended the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel for one year.
Prior to his law enforcement career, Todd worked for some of the largest law firms in Washington, D.C. as a government affairs analyst assisting with their regulatory, legislative, policy and litigation practices. This work included researching businesses, individuals, industries, and legislation/regulations in a timely and efficient manner.
